Day 3: Buying Snacks

Today went well for the challenge. It was really similar to yesterday. Conveniently, I had a meeting at the library, and the library had a microwave in the café area. There, I also bought a snack. I usually don’t buy random snacks like this, but maybe I was hungry from last night’s intense two hour synchronized swimming practice. We’re getting ready for Collegiate Nationals.

Anyways, the snack I bought was a banana bread. It was self-serve, so I grabbed a napkin from a nearby table and used that to take it off the shelf with the other baked goods.

Then, I threw the napkin out in a compost bin on my way out of the building. The waste bins in this building are really cool because they have screens with running slideshows of common items above the bin that it should be properly disposed in.

I still really wish they put napkins on top of the bakery shelf, where they currently have paper bags and wax paper (not shown in image), to grab the bakery items. Especially if someone is planning to eat the food right away, a napkin is much more sustainable than a wax paper and soiled paper bag that cannot go into the compost or recycling.

Like yesterday, the only thing that generated trash was the sticker from the apple.
